The Youth Council of Zayed Authority for People of Determination, in collaboration with Aldar Youth Council, organized the “More Than Just a Pink Ribbon” event, featuring a 5-kilometre walk and run at The Galleria, Al Maryah Island, Abu Dhabi. The event attracted approximately 500 participants, including People of Determination, their families, and members of the wider community. It was attended by His Excellency Abdulla Al Humaidan, Acting Director General of Zayed Authority for People of Determination, and Mr. Sultan Al Khouri, Associate Director of Retail at Aldar Properties.

Held in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the event aimed to raise health awareness, encourage community members to adopt active lifestyles, highlight the importance of prevention and early detection, and express support and solidarity with individuals affected by breast cancer and their families.

The initiative forms part of the community events and activities that the Youth Council of Zayed Authority for People of Determination is committed to organising and participating in. It reflects the Council’s role in promoting the engagement of People of Determination in community initiatives and expanding their opportunities to participate in sports and health-related activities, supporting their inclusion and interaction with different segments of society.

The event reflected the values of cooperation and solidarity, highlighting the importance of providing People of Determination and their families with opportunities to participate in health and sports activities. Such initiatives contribute to enhancing quality of life, reinforcing social inclusion, and affirming the role of People of Determination as active partners in initiatives that benefit the wider community.

The event also featured an interactive movement activity for People of Determination (POD Dance), held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on the South Link Bridge at The Galleria. The activity brought together younger People of Determination in an engaging environment that encouraged physical movement, interaction, and community participation.

Meera Al Shamsi, Chairperson of the Youth Council of Zayed Authority for People of Determination, said: “The ‘More Than Just a Pink Ribbon’ event embodies our belief in the role of young people in creating a positive and sustainable impact on society, and in their ability to transform initiatives and ideas into meaningful activities that combine social responsibility, health awareness, and human solidarity. Our participation in organising this event in collaboration with Aldar Youth Council reflects the importance of bringing together youth efforts to deliver purposeful initiatives that reach all segments of society.”

She added: “We were keen to ensure that this event provided an inclusive space for everyone, where People of Determination, their families, and members of the community could participate side by side. This reaffirms their right to full participation in community, sports, and health activities, while reinforcing the values of inclusion and equal participation.

Al Shamsi emphasized that the event’s message extended beyond walking and running to highlight the importance of prevention and early detection and encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyles. She noted that the Authority’s Youth Council would continue to develop impactful initiatives that provide young people and People of Determination with broader opportunities for participation, innovation, and contribution, helping to build a more aware, cohesive, and inclusive society.

The event demonstrated the importance of partnerships between youth councils in delivering meaningful community initiatives that combine health awareness with social responsibility. Such collaborations enable young people to contribute to organizing activities that promote positive engagement and foster a culture of health awareness and prevention.

Through this initiative, the Youth Council of Zayed Authority for People of Determination continues to strengthen community participation and reinforce the role of young people in organizing initiatives that bring together health awareness and human solidarity. These efforts support the development of a more inclusive society in which everyone could participate, contribute, and enhance quality of life.
