Zayed Authority for People of Determination, represented by its Blind Care Department, marked White Cane Day in collaboration with Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, by organizing a joint event at the museum. The event brought together several individuals with visual impairments and their families in an engaging and positive atmosphere, as part of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to promote the independence of blind people and support their active participation in community and cultural life.
The event reflects the Authority’s commitment to providing high-quality, inclusive cultural experiences for blind people and their families in accessible and supportive environments, reinforcing inclusion and ensuring access to a wide range of cultural experiences and activities.
H.E. Naeema Abdulrahman Al Mansoori, Director of the Blind Care Department and former Member of the Federal National Council, emphasized that White Cane Day is an important occasion to raise awareness of the role of the white cane as an essential tool that supports the independence of blind people and enhances their ability to navigate their surroundings and participate in various aspects of life.
She noted that organizing the event in collaboration with Zayed National Museum highlights the importance of partnerships between relevant entities and cultural institutions and contributes to creating inclusive cultural experiences that enable people with visual impairments and their families to engage in and participate in a variety of cultural activities and programs.
She added that holding the event during the Year of the Family carries particular significance, given the pivotal role families play in supporting their blind family members and strengthening their independence and self-confidence. She stressed that family participation in such initiatives helps build a supportive environment that encourages inclusion and active participation in society.
In this context, Noura Al Mubarak, Director of Institutional and International Affairs at Zayed National Museum, said: “Accessibility lies at the heart of the museum experience, through which we seek to enable every visitor to explore the history of the UAE and engage with it in a way that suits their individual needs. Our collaboration with Zayed Authority for People of Determination reflects the importance of joint efforts in developing inclusive cultural experiences that enhance the independence of people with visual impairments and their families, while providing them with opportunities to participate, learn and engage with the museum and its collection together. Through such initiatives, we continue our efforts to ensure that the museum is a welcoming space for all members of the community, enabling everyone to become part of the stories of their nation.”
The event included a guided walk that began at Liwan, continued around the Magan Boat, and proceeded through the “Through Our Nature” gallery, where participants explored its cultural content and experiences.
Through such initiatives, Zayed Authority for People of Determination continues its efforts to enhance the community and cultural participation of blind people, support their independence and enable their access to diverse experiences and activities, in line with the objectives of the Year of the Family and the family’s role as a key partner in empowerment, support and community participation.
